Kristina Wißling gave a lecture titled "Origami Engineering - Folding for technical applications" followed by a workshop "Folding Techniques in Industrial Design" as part of the Innovative Citizen - Festival for new urban skills at the Dortmunder U - Zentrum für Kunst und Kreativität in Dortmund.
The Innovative Citizen - Festival for new urban skills took place under the aspect of the Maker culture. Do-it-yourself is combined with modern technology and thus initiates a variety of creative processes. The Maker Culture was brought to Dortmund Union Quarter in form of a festival, providing a glimpse into a future culture of innovation and production that focuses on the "Innovative Citizen".
In various lectures and talks including Kristina Wißling`s on „Origami Engineering“, installations, actions and numerous workshops such as "Folding Techniques for Engineers" discussed new technologies. These technologies were then used for creative processes, network building and sustainability potentials were made visible. Numerous exhibits ranging from 3D printing to origami folding techniques such as Tessellations, Spiral Folds and Curved Folding showed what is already possible today.
The festival was organized by the Fraunhofer-Institut für Umwelt-, Sicherheits- und Energietechnik UMSICHT, DEZENTRALE, HEIMATDESIGN, Folkwang Universität der Künste , european centre for creative economy (ecce) and was supported by the Ministry for Economy, Energy, Industry, Small and Medium-Sized Businesses and Crafts of North Rhine-Westphalia. Innovative Citizen was a contribution to Klimaexpo.NRW
