Customer/Client: Sachsenröder GmbH&Co.KG
City: Wuppertal

Kristina Wißling was invited to an In-House Innovation Workshop with focus on Origami Engineering and Folding Techniques by the manufacturer Sachsenröder, the manufacturer of Vulkanfiber. In cooperation with the company Generationdesign GmbH, the main focus was on the analysis of production-related folds and lightweight folding constructions.
In addition to the use of renewable raw materials, an ever-increasing scarcity of resources is making increasing material efficiency more and more important. Functional folds such as tessellations based on origami engineering enable novel lightweight constructions and sustainable product design. For highly stable volumes produced in the isometric folding process, the material Vulkanfiber offers decisive advantages. Due to the possibility of removing the material layer by layer, film hinges can be produced in the material. Without post-processing, volcanic fever can be precisely bent, stamped and punched and is also extremely tear-resistant.
Originally developed for the aerospace industry, lightweight components are now an essential factor for electromobility, for example.
Kristina Wißling has already been invited to several In-House Innovation Workshops for clients such as Miele, Durable, automotive and aerospace companies. If you are interested in an Innovation Workshop at your company, or are interested in development and use of folding structures in industrial design please get in touch.
