Studio Kristina Wißling was asked to create a Formula 1 Racing Car with Origami folding techniques on a scale of 1:1 for the Kunsthalle in Mainz. The racing car was made of six large-format paper squares that were specially made for this installation from laminated plastic-coated paper with golden foil. The prepared golden paper squares were then used to fold a multi-piece monumental origami sculpture, each module folded by hand.
The pattern had many folds, and the faceted shape of the wheel design created an array of tonal golden variations and shadows when the light was cast upon the golden surface. The larger parts , especially the wheels had an inner wooden structure. The base for the Formula 1 Racing Car was made using MDF boards. In addition to the Large- format Paper Racing Car , Wall Art in form of folding instructions was attached to the walls of the exhibition space as a drawing.
The Large Format Paper Racing Car was commissioned by Kunsthalle Mainz and Artist Frank Boelter , presented during the exhibition KM 500 5 in Mainz.
