Airbags, convertible roofs, folding plans, package inserts, applications in medicine, the automotive industry or space travel: Kristina Wißling has dedicated herself to the practical application of the art of folding (origami). She works with the aesthetics as well as the special static and structural properties of folded surfaces and bodies.
She became known through her concept "Origami for Industry" and the bridging of the traditional Japanese folding technique of origami in industrial applications. In addition, the computer-based development of folding objects that are visually unique and contain a high degree of craftsmanship in combination with complicated details.
Kristina Wißling's path led her to work as a freelance designer via training as a media designer and communication design studies in Dortmund. After further training, she was first awarded in 2009 for her concept "Origami for Industry". In 2010 she was a prize winner in the Federal Government's Cultural and Creative Pilots competition and in 2011 she was named one of the "100 Women of Tomorrow" - Land of Ideas under the patronage of the Federal President.
For large-scale projects, the designer works with a diverse team from a wide range of disciplines, including artists, engineers, art directors, illustrators, filmmakers and photographers, depending on the skills required for the project. Kristina Wißling gives lectures and conducts folding technique workshops in the form of in-house innovation workshops in companies, for brands and at universities, sharing her passion for origami and folding techniques.
Her previous clients include Durable, Miele, Kolle&Rebbe, ETH Zurich, RWTH Aachen, Rituals, Zeiss, Sachsenröder, Fraunhofer Institute, and companies in the automotive and packaging industries. Kristina Wißling was named a Cultural and Creative Pilot by the Federal Government and one of the 100 Women of Tomorrow by the Land of Ideas initiative.
